Walking in History: Celebrating the Victory of Adwa

Saturday March 1, 2025: The Adwa Victory Walk in Metro Vancouver offered a reflective journey through the milestones of Black and African history. This annual event not only commemorates significant historical achievements but also brings communities together to share stories of resilience and triumph.

Honoring the 129th Victory of Adwa

The walk celebrated the historic Victory of Adwa—a landmark moment in 1896 when Emperor Menelik II and Ethiopian forces decisively defeated colonial Italian power. This victory was far more than a military success; it marked a turning point that fueled the hope for liberation across Africa and among oppressed Black communities worldwide. The spirit of unity and determination from that pivotal day continues to inspire those who strive for freedom and equality.
